5 Reasons BGMI Rejects Your Name (+ Fixes)

1

Name exceeds 16 characters

BGMI allows a maximum of 16 characters including all symbols, spaces, and letters. This is the most common reason for rejection — players often undercount because they forget that ꧁ and ꧂ each count as one character, and spaces also count.

✓ Fix:

Count your name carefully: ꧁★TITAN★꧂ = 9 characters (꧁ + ★ + T + I + T + A + N + ★ + ꧂). Use our BGMI Name Generator with Length Filter ≤16 to automatically filter compatible names.

Bad: ꧁★TITANWARRIOR★꧂ (17 chars) → Good: ꧁★WARRIOR★꧂ (11 chars)

2

Name contains a banned word

BGMI uses an automated content filter that blocks profanity, hate speech, and some terms related to cheating or hacking. The filter is broad — it sometimes blocks words that seem harmless.

✓ Fix:

Replace the flagged word with a symbol or synonym. Instead of direct words, use descriptive alternatives: BEAST instead of K*LL, WARRIOR instead of sensitive terms, or go abstract with TITAN, GHOST, PHANTOM.

Bad: contains flagged word → Good: ꧁WARRIOR꧂ or ★PHANTOM★

3

Name has invisible/zero-width characters

Some name generators insert invisible Unicode characters (zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners) to create visual effects. BGMI's name validator detects these and rejects the name even if it looks valid on screen.

✓ Fix:

Avoid name generators that use tricks to make names appear shorter. Our generator uses only visible Unicode characters — what you see is what gets counted.

The name looks like 8 chars but the validator sees 18 → use a clean generator

4

Server error / connection issue

BGMI name changes process through Krafton's servers. During high-traffic periods the name change API can fail or timeout, returning a generic rejection error even when the name itself is valid.

✓ Fix:

Wait 10-15 minutes and try again. If the problem persists for more than an hour, check BGMI's official Twitter/X for server status updates.

Error during OB-X launch day → try again in 30 minutes

5

Not enough UC / Rename Card expired

A BGMI name change requires 180 UC or a valid Rename Card. If you have less than 180 UC, the transaction fails. Rename Cards from events also have expiry dates.

✓ Fix:

Check your UC balance in the store. Check your inventory for Rename Cards and verify their expiry date.

Rename Card expired Jan 31 → can't use after that date

Quick Checklist Before Spending 180 UC

Count the characters manually — include every symbol and space
Use our Length Filter ≤16 to pre-filter compatible names
Avoid names with potentially banned words — use WARRIOR, GHOST, PHANTOM instead
Test the name in your notes app first to check rendering
Check BGMI server status if you get repeated generic errors
Verify your Rename Card hasn't expired before trying to use it
